Techniwords is a technical translation company based in Houston, Texas. We work on industrial documentation and nothing else: equipment and maintenance manuals, technical specifications, safety data sheets, CAD drawings, patents, validation protocols, inspection reports, and tender files.
The company was started in 2011 by two linguists who had spent years producing and localizing documentation for the energy sector. They had watched the same failure repeat — documents returned fluent and technically wrong, a converted pressure rating here, a component named three different ways across nine chapters there — and built Techniwords on the opposite premise: a technical document should be translated by someone who could have written it.
That premise governs recruiting. Our senior linguists hold engineering degrees in mechanical, electrical, chemical, and aeronautical disciplines, and worked in industry before turning to translation. Candidates translate a real archived document that is scored against the delivered version before they join; most fail on terminology consistency rather than on language.
Clients are US manufacturers, engineering firms, medical device makers, and exporters — companies whose documentation carries regulatory or safety consequences. Every quote names the translator we would assign, with credentials, so the client can vet the match before committing. Terminology is agreed and locked with the client's engineers before translation begins, a second independent linguist revises every sentence against the source, and a separate pass verifies numbers, units, and hazard statements.
What sets us apart is as much what we decline as what we accept. No marketing copy, no literary work, no corporate communications. Turning down adjacent work keeps the bench deep enough that a pharmaceutical validation protocol and a mining safety procedure each reach someone who has handled that document type before.
